Wed, Jul 7, 1943: Ship B

“Dear Folks:
“Above is a view of the dormitory in which I live, Albert Hall.  In all official announcements by the CO it's known as ‘Ship B’, stories are known as ‘decks’, the entrance steps as the ‘gangway’, the walls as ‘bulkheads’ and beds as bunks.  Any person aboard, listening to the officers and men talking would undoubtedly have the feeling that he was at sea....”
-- Letter from my father, Cape Girardeau, Mo., to his family, Bloomington, Kans., Wednesday, July 7, 1943.  “CO” is commanding officer. My father was in his first week as an apprentice seaman in the Navy V-12 program.
