letter came at the close of our regular Saturday inspection.

had all my equiptment laid out on my bunk and had it looking pretty neat and
according to the book
"The
inspecting officer was our platoon leader.
So he didn't look for the spit and polish rather than the
servicability. He looked at the gas
masks to see if the face piece was free from grit and sand. He also smelled the canteen to see that it
had been bittered, recomended baking soda to sweeten the taste."
