Photograph of my father as an 18-year-old sailor in the U.S. Navy, taken late August 1943, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Of this photo and others, he wrote his sister "Don't laugh now, when you look at them, they're the best I could do, and after all the photographer kept urging me to smile."
