the entrance steps as the ‘gangway’, the walls as ‘bulkheads’ and beds as
bunks. Any person aboard, listening to
the officers and men talking would undoubtedly have the feeling that he was at
sea....”

commanding officer. My father was in his first week as an apprentice seaman in the Navy V-12 program.
